allergies

Daff has grass allergies and this summer has needed medication most days to stop her scratching and nibbling herself all day long.Tried Polaramine works ok but the pac now has only 20 2mg tabs in it so doesnt last long and at $10 a pct gets expensive.
The chemist lady said to try PERIACTIN 4mg tabs 50 tabs per pac $4.95 a box.works exactly the same as Polaramine.
It is kept in the dispensary so need to ask for it.not on the shelves.

Hi Nikki,
Daff is 2 1/2 and she has had allergies off and on since we rescued her,not really bad but this summer has been continuous she likes to rub her belly along on the grass so that doesnt help matters.Vet said milder allergies tend to fade out at about 3 years so i hope thats the case. She is always worse after i bath her ??????now use alloveen shampoo and leave in conditioner.Malaseb really sets her off....
Donna bb+crew. ps the other 3 are allergie free thank you God.....

My lucy is 10 this year and she still get allergies in her eyes (got drops) and between her toes. And sometimes the pink on her underbelly but not much of that. I get a special cream for her toes but does it last long!!!!!! not much with her licking it off. Jeni

Mac sometimes gets grass allergies in Spring. Usually kick off when the paspalum grass starts growing. The vet said to use half a Claratyne tablet (from the chemist). These worked really well, made him a little dopey but stopped the itch and the red stomach. He needed them for about three years in Spring but hasn't needed them for several years. He's now 10.

poor Bj had the worst allergies ever. Didn't start until he was around 2 1/2 and gradually got worse and worse. he was on cortisone which i stopped after a few years as the side effects were horrible.
poor boy suffered so much and eventually the fantastic vet we found put him on atopica and WOW the difference in a week was amazing. he is now the dog on the brochures the vets hand out lol
he couldn't eat anything other than fish as all foods pretty much triggered it, all grasses so in summer we didn't walk him at all and basically tried to keep him inside. Cotton dog covers etc
Atopica would not be for every dog only the ones with severe allergies that nothing else helsp (it is the medication for heart transplant patients so suppress's the immune system)
