Hot cross buns

Postby Macnmill on March 22nd, 2010, 12:39 pm

The other day Millie decided to get into the spirit of the season.

There was a bag of hot cross buns on the back of the bench, a challenge to a beagle. Millie applied herself and dragged the bag off the bench and into her mouth. At this point, most beagles gobble as fast as possible.

Millie decided she wanted to eat these in peace, without the risk of another beagle eating them. So she banged on the door asking to be let outside with the bag of buns held firmly in her mouth.

When a human appeared she asked very nicely to go out. She was a bit disappointed when the human asked her to let go of the buns, but she did so. So no buns for Millie and very surprised humans!

A beagle who will let go of food! Amazing.

What a crack up! Love it! I guess that's part of the disadvantage of having a dog door - ours can escape and then hide in their favourite spots to eat whatever they have taken with less fear of discovery!

Hi Mac and Millie's Mum,

good news you got the buns back, the beagles would have been devastated. Not sure how many people are aware that raisins, sultanas, grapes in general, shouldn't be fed to dogs. They are toxic and can kill dogs through kidney failure. Not all dogs are affected in the same way, and I'm not sure why they are toxic to dogs is really known, but you don't want to take the risk.

Yes, her manners are gorgeous.

My last girl was memorable for scoffing food when out on a walk. One day we walked past a house where people had thrown lots of bread rolls out on the nature strip for the birds. Charlie saw them before I did. Then she went for it! She had one roll in each side of her mouth, one in the middle of her mouth that she was trying to swallow and one in her front teeth for when there was space.

I've never seen a dog with so much food in her mouth at once. There was no way I could get it all off her without losing a finger but it was very funny!
